Ambience Is A Big Word

Oh yes, let's talk about my social life. One of the best and one of the most anxiety-causing facets of my life.

First of all, this past week had to have been one of the craziest ones I've had in a while. Mostly due to my 4-night streak of going out. Oops. But hey, it's summer, and there is no schoolwork for me to do...however, there is work the next morning. I've learned that it is far less delightful to commute on the T when you cannot breathe because of nausea. Pretty sure that's common sense, but it's all too real the next day after a long night.

My favorite is that when I go out with friends I always monitor what I'm consuming.
"I'm on a diet," I say.
"But nachos," my friends say.
And I cave.

Aside from my passion for sangria, I've really started to branch out of my comfort zone with different food and drinks. Places in Boston have piqued my interest for many reasons:

1. Some restaurants have a wide range of menu items, so I usually can find something on my "diet" if I'm feeling it that day..I was at one that had curry, tacos, burgers, and salads all on the same menu. Kind of made me dizzy. I looked up that restaurant on yelp, and it said "GOTTA GET THE TOTS." So naturally I got the tots, and they rocked my world. Napoleon Dynamite would have been proud.

2. Another thing is the ambience of certain restaurants/bars. I went to one that I literally have a hard time recalling, not due to intoxication, rather due to the fact that there were so many quirky details to the place. A toy train moves around the restaurant above head. I showed my best friend, and we couldn't stop laughing. Next there is the famous $1 chicken guy. He's a little man that legitimately has a big KFC style tub of chicken skewers. He goes around and sells them for one dollar to all the drunk people. Must make a fortune. Lastly, there is karaoke at this place. What's funny about that, is that you can put your name on the list, but there are always 80 thousand people in front of you. But by the time they call a new person to come up, the line cuts in half because of all the drunk people who left or don't remember their names. Just a fun, fun place.

One other place that is really cool and hipster-y is The Thinking Cup on Newbury St. Not only do they have the best desserts (ex. fruit tarts), they also make designs on top of your coffee with powdered sugar or something of the sort. You can even get a heart on your coffee. I don't drink coffee, but I would if someone bought me a heart coffee. Just saying.

3. Lastly, I want to discuss how expensive everything is in this city. This doesn't really pique my interest in the way that I'm excited about it per se. But, it makes me wonder why everything has to be so expensive. Like do I really have to pay that extra 60 cents for a miniscule side of marinara sauce? According to my favorite brunch place, I do. Also, maybe it's more expensive here because a lot of things aren't taxed. I get shocked every time I buy something at a store, and it's exactly the price on the tag. No complaints on that one.

So yeah. Recently I've been exploring Beantown with friends, and it's been great. Yesterday I got almost 16,000 steps recorded on my handy dandy iPhone, meaning I walked all around the city. I love just meandering next to the Charles and seeing different buildings that have certain significances. My favorite is when people I'm with teach me about those buildings or give me fun facts about Boston. Because then......I can share them with my blog! And I also share them with my friends, and they think I'm wise. Win win, I must say.

It's also really fun to go out and meet new people. Every time I go out, I at least meet one cool person that I would have never known. I think that's the coolest thing. Again, I'm super into how people cross paths for a reason. Even if it is a minute reason. Even if they were just there to provide entertainment in the form of a joke or a comment. People are unique and cool, and I hope everyone I meet thinks the same about our little interactions.

This week, I think I'll stay in more and watch the amazing Blackhawks fight for the Stanley Cup. Especially because I'm the biggest (fairest of all the weather) fan. Cheers to that!
